The Guardian Center

Overview

The Guardian Center staff members offer a variety of services to children and families dealing with the pain of child abuse. These services include emotional support, trauma counseling, referrals for medical evaluations, and court support for children and families. Staff (left to right) Sheryl Woodham (Executive Director), Mikaila Moore (Saline County Advocate), Sydney Slaughter (Healing Harbor Satellite Advocate), Kim Russell (Forensic Interviewer), Brandi Hankins (Forensic Interviewer), Ashleigh Turner ( Forensic Interviewer), Nicole Bradfield (White, Edwards and Wabash County Advocate), In 1996, volunteers realized the need for a child advocacy center for abused children and their families for southeastern Illinois. In 1997, a group attended the Illinois Attorney Generals 1997 Capitol Conference to obtain information about establishing a center and a start-up grant from Illinois DCFS was received. Advisory boards were formed in 1998 to develop protocols for agency responses to abuse cases a Program Development Grant through the National Network of Child Advocacy Centers enabled space to be leased near the courthouse. The Guardian Center received its 501c3 incorporation on 7-30-98, and became registered as a Charitable Organization. In 1999, The Guardian Center, Inc. began interviewing children and providing advocacy services for families experiencing sexual abuse. Services expanded in 2000 to include Edwards and Wabash Counties and again in 2003 to serve families experiencing physical abuse. In September of 2014, the main office of The Guardian Center moved to a new permanent home at 1124 Oak Street, Carmi, IL.

Long-term care, skilled nursing facilities and rehab centers

Long-term care centers, skilled nursing facilities, and rehabilitation centers (rehab centers) are important healthcare providers that offer a variety of services to meet the needs of individuals with different healthcare requirements. Skilled nursing facilities provide more intensive medical care compared to long-term care centers, employing a team of nurses and medical professionals who offer round-the-clock care. These facilities cater to individuals who have recently been discharged from the hospital or require assistance in recovering from an injury or surgery. Rehabilitation centers specialize in delivering therapy services to help individuals regain their physical, cognitive, and functional abilities. By working together, these centers can provide a continuum of care that helps people live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
